Jesus and Us
Scripture
Hebrews 10:24
“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works.”
Devotional
We often describe Christianity as a personal relationship with Jesus. That is wonderfully true—but it is not the whole truth.
The language of Hebrews 10 is striking: “Let us… Let us… Let us… one another… one another…”
God did not save you merely to give you a private relationship with Him. When Christ reconciled you to God, He also brought you into a family. Christianity certainly includes “Jesus and me,” but biblical Christianity also requires “Jesus and us.”
That means other believers are not an optional accessory to your Christian life. God has intentionally placed His people around you. They need your encouragement, and you need theirs. They need your prayers, and you need theirs. They need your example, and you need theirs.
This changes the way we think about church. Instead of asking, “What did I get out of church?” Hebrews teaches us to ask, “How might God use me in someone else’s life?”
Perhaps someone needs a conversation with you this week. Maybe someone needs to know you noticed they were struggling. Perhaps your faithful presence during your own difficult season will quietly encourage another believer to keep going.
God has not designed the Christian life to be lived alone.
Reflection
Do I tend to think of Christianity primarily as “Jesus and me”? Who has God placed around me that I can intentionally encourage this week?
Prayer
Father, thank You for bringing me not only to Yourself but also into Your family. Forgive me when I treat other believers as unnecessary to my Christian life. Help me to see the people You have placed around me and use me to encourage them toward love, faithfulness, and good works. Amen.
