Your Presence Matters
Scripture
Hebrews 10:24–25
“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together…”
Devotional
We can easily approach church as consumers.
Was the sermon interesting? Did I like the songs? Did I get anything out of it?
Hebrews asks us to think differently.
It tells us to “consider” one another—to pay attention to the people God has placed around us. Then it tells us to “stir up” one another toward love and good works.
In other words, you don't merely attend church. You participate in the spiritual good of Christ's body.
Think about the people who sit near you each Sunday. One may be grieving. Another may be struggling with doubt. Someone may be exhausted from caring for a loved one. Another may be quietly fighting temptation.
What might God do through a simple conversation, a prayer, an encouraging word, or an act of kindness?
Sometimes you don't even have to say anything.
There is something profoundly encouraging about watching another Christian continue to faithfully worship during suffering. Their presence quietly testifies, “Christ is still worthy. God is still faithful. I'm still holding fast.”
Never underestimate what God may accomplish simply through your faithfulness.
Your presence matters.
Reflection
Instead of asking only what I will receive when God's people gather, how can I prepare to strengthen someone else?
Prayer
Father, deliver me from a consumer view of Your church. Give me eyes to consider others. Show me who needs encouragement, prayer, kindness, or simply a listening ear. Use even my presence to strengthen Your people and stir them toward love and good works. Amen.
