Love That Endures All Day

Read: Psalm 52:1–4; 1 Peter 2:21–25
“The steadfast love of God endures all the day.” — Psalm 52:1

David speaks of God’s steadfast love while remembering terrible evil at Nob. The priests were killed, their families suffered, and Abiathar fled for his life. David does not say that God’s people cannot be wounded. The loss was real. His confidence is that evil cannot overturn God’s faithful character or cancel his promises.

That distinction matters when someone is grieving. We should not hurry past their pain with a reassuring sentence. The words “all the day” include the day when the news arrives, the day when the questions multiply, and the day when no explanation comes. God’s love is no less steadfast because we cannot yet see how he will bring good from what has happened.

We see the depth of that love in Jesus. He was innocent, yet he suffered unjustly. When reviled, he did not threaten in return. He entrusted himself to the Father who judges justly, and he bore our sins on the tree. The cross does not make our wounds imaginary. It gives us a Savior who entered suffering and dealt with our deepest need.

When you cannot make sense of a hard day, begin with what God has made known in Christ. You may ask honest questions and seek the care of his people. Trust does not require you to pretend that you are well. Bring the actual sorrow to the One whose love endures.

Reflect: What grief or fear have I been tempted to hide from God? How does Christ’s suffering and mercy help me bring it to him?

Pray: Father, I cannot explain every painful thing. Hold me fast in your steadfast love. Help me trust your Son, who suffered for sinners and now reigns for his people. Amen.
